China's tax season has begun, and although you have until June 30 to file, it's advisable to do it sooner to avoid forgetting. Fortunately, the process of filing your taxes is quite straightforward—just download an app, enter some information, click a few buttons, and hit "submit."

If you have filed your taxes before, simply download the app by searching for 个人所得税 (gèrén suǒdéshuì) in your phone's app store, log in using either your phone number or ID number, and follow the steps below. For first-time filers, you'll need to visit your local tax bureau for assistance with app registration and to obtain your refund information. Use this guide for that process.

Once you have access to the app, follow these steps:

Open the app and click on the large blue button at the top of the page to file your taxes.

If you haven't logged in yet, you will be prompted to do so. If your information doesn’t automatically appear (as some may already be linked), you'll need to enter details such as your place of residence, company name, ID information, and country of origin. You can ask your company's HR department for assistance with this.

Make sure to apply for any special deductions you may qualify for. To locate this option, scroll down the main page until you find 专项附加扣除填报 (zhuānxiàng fùjiā kòuchú tiánbào) (Additional Special Deductions, as shown in the picture below).

Click on it, and you'll see options to declare deductions for children's education, continued education, medical expenses, housing loan interest, housing rent, and elderly care.

Once you clarify everything, enter your deductions and ensure you have completed the filing process. If you're due a refund and haven't already linked a bank card to your account, you will be prompted to add one at this stage.

It's important to note that if you miss the June 30 deadline, you won't face penalties, but you will lose out on any potential tax refund you might have qualified for. Moreover, China's tax service will continue to reach out to you or your employer to remind you to file, so it's best to complete it before the deadline to secure your refund and avoid any complications.
