Which New Burger Establishments Have Opened and Which Have Closed This Year?

      We're launching the 2026 Beijing Juicy Burger Cup, which has led us to reflect on the changes in the burger landscape since last year's event. Each year tends to bring in new offerings while bidding farewell to some favorites (we're still heartbroken over the brief but iconic Xingfucun burger joint, Cannon's).

      To kick things off, we're compiling a Master List of all contenders while reviewing the openings and closures from the past year.

      **Closures**

      Starting with the unfortunate news, two establishments that participated in last year's Juicy Burger Fest have closed:

      Additionally, the following burger joints have shut down:

      Without a doubt, one of the most significant newcomers is the popular Tex-Mex chain Chili's. Their signature burger, the Oldtimer with Cheese—featuring a handmade Wagyu and Angus beef patty with American cheese in a brioche bun—has captured the hearts and appetites of many worldwide.

      - **PIGNUT BARBECUE**

      Open near WAB, PIGNUT BARBECUE has quickly become a favorite among American BBQ enthusiasts in Beijing, offering four burger options: Beef Brisket Burger, Double Burger, Pulled Pork Burger, and Fried Chicken Burger.

      - **Sandyq 桑迪克哈萨克民族餐厅**

      We were quite taken with Beijing's first Kazakh restaurant, Sandyq, which opened in November last year. They have recently added a Beef Rib Cheeseburger to their menu, featuring hand-pulled beef ribs cooked with a secret recipe, stacked on a beef patty with melted cheese. While it's not a traditional Kazakh dish, we’re always excited to try new burgers!
