Although it’s still early in 2026, Beijing's food and beverage scene has already faced its first loss with The Roots announcing that their Dongzhimen location officially closed on January 4.
In a message shared on the restaurant's Dianping page, the team expressed gratitude to patrons for their ongoing support and reaffirmed their strong ties to Beijing, noting that their three other branches in the capital are still in operation. The official closure announcement can be found below.
Opened in late 2020, the Dongzhimen branch represented The Roots' transition from Yizhuang to the city center. Managed by Frenchman Antoine Mansuy and his wife Masie Lu, the restaurant quickly gained a reputation for its tasty Western menu with a Southern European influence. Its cozy space above Paddy O'Shea's, featuring generous share-style dishes like Peri Peri Roasted Chicken, became a beloved spot over the years.
If you have cherished memories of dining at the Dongzhimen branch, it’s the perfect time to revisit your favorites at one of their other locations around the city. Details for each remaining location are provided below.
