In another setback for Beijing's food and beverage sector, Mosto has announced that it will soon be closing its doors.
Co-owner Alex Molina shared the news via WeChat:
"After 18 unforgettable years, it’s time for us to say farewell. We’re in our final days and we would love to celebrate with you!
This weekend, we have special offers, music, and the classic Mosto atmosphere—it's the perfect opportunity to stop by, raise a glass, and create a few more memories together.
Thank you, Beijing, for 18 incredible years. Let’s make these last days just as remarkable as the journey we’ve had!"
As Mosto approaches its final weekend, you have one last chance to visit and say goodbye.
Founded in 2008 by longtime Beijing expatriate Eva Biörck, her husband Molina, and business partner chef Daniel Urdaneta, Mosto has been a mainstay in Beijing's culinary scene, although their 18 years in the city have not been without challenges.
Originally located in Nali Patio, they nearly faced permanent closure in June 2022 following issues with the landlord, who partially demolished part of the building. This disruption forced Mosto to close temporarily, and they struggled with cash flow for reopening. Fortunately, the Beijing community rallied to support them, successfully raising funds for their reopening in July 2022.
However, in a twist of fate, it was announced in 2023 that Nali Patio would permanently close as of July 31 that year. Later in 2023, Mosto reopened in the Mix Island complex, situated just east of Tuanjiehu, where they have remained for the past two years.
We will certainly be saddened to bid Mosto farewell, and we encourage everyone who has had the chance to visit to come by this weekend for a final goodbye.
