Reopening of Line 1 Subway Stations
A number of stations at the western end of Line 1 have recently reopened after being closed for an extended period. Pingguoyuan station (苹果园站) has opened its doors again after being closed for six years, while Gucheng (古城站) and Babaoshan (八宝山站) stations resumed service following three months of closure each.
The Pingguoyuan station now facilitates transfers between Line 1, Line 6, and the S1 line, as part of the Pingguoyuan Transport Hub. There are also enhanced options for express, regular bus, and park-and-ride services.
Significant upgrades have been made at Pingguoyuan station, including the addition of entrance/exit gates, direct elevator access between levels, more escalators at entrances, mother–baby changing rooms, and accessible restrooms.
Bajiao Amusement Park station (八角游乐园站) remains closed due to ongoing construction, with trains continuing to pass through without stopping. The station is expected to reopen in June 2027.
As of May 19, the temporary bus route adjustments and other supporting measures implemented during the closures of the aforementioned stations have been lifted.
Line 22 Set to Open Later This Year
It has been recently revealed that Line 22, known as the Pinggu line, will partially open later this year.
Once fully operational, the line will connect Dongdaqiao station (东大桥站) to Pinggu station (平谷站). The larger section from Hongmiao to Pinggu will open later this year, while a shorter stretch from Dongdaqiao to Hongmiao station (红庙站), including Jintaixizhao station (金台夕照站), is slated to open in 2029.
This line will link Chaoyang District, Tongzhou District, Sanhe City in Hebei province, and Pinggu District, marking Beijing’s first regional express line that crosses provincial borders. The completed line will stretch approximately 81.8 km, comprising around 50.2 km in Beijing and 31.6 km in Hebei province, featuring a total of 22 stations, 12 of which will be transfer stations.
Line 22 will greatly benefit residents of Pinggu and western Yanjiao Town in Sanhe, significantly reducing travel time between Yanjiao and Tongzhou to as little as nine minutes. The estimated travel time from Yanjiao to Hongmiao station in Beijing will be around 28 minutes, while the journey from Pinggu station to Hongmiao station will take about 53 minutes.
