Now that you're a parent, although you might not be staying out late partying or competing in drinking games with your friends, you'd still like to enjoy the exciting festivals that Beijing has to offer. With the annual Juicy Burger Fest approaching, it's an ideal time to prepare your family for a food festival!
We have some great tips for you! Thankfully, there are ways to make attending these festivals with your little ones much easier while ensuring that everyone has a good time. Here are several effective hacks for bringing your babies to the festivities!
1. Combat the Heat
Few things irritate both babies and parents more than excessive heat, making it hard to enjoy the festival atmosphere. While adults can cope better, there are a few strategies I wish I had utilized at my last festival.
Prepare some small ice packs in advance for your baby to play with and stay cool. Babies are drawn to unusual items, and these work well on hot days.
Pro Tip: I always save the mini ice packs from frozen deliveries from Taobao, JD, or HeMa – they’re perfect for this!
If you have room, consider bringing some water play items! A small inflatable pool (like the 50cm ones on Taobao for just RMB 20) or a few empty containers for splashing can be an excellent way to keep your baby cool and entertained.
Shade is essential! A small tent, a large umbrella, or anything that provides a cool space can greatly enhance your experience. This is also useful for breastfeeding, diaper changes, or a little nap.
Don't forget the sunscreen and sunhats – and be sure to pack some mosquito repellent.
Pro Tip: If you're unsure about which products to choose, check our article on baby-safe mosquito repellents!
Bring multiple outfit options to accommodate changing weather – something warmer for cooler temperatures, lighter gear for warmer weather, and always have extras in case of spills or messes. Keeping your baby comfortable is crucial.
2. Avoid the Crowds
Arriving as early as possible is beneficial for securing a good spot for the day. Having the chance to choose your location early allows you to find an area away from loud speakers that may be harmful for sensitive ears or temporary setups that your baby might want to pull over.
