Three Key Items for the Upcoming Week in Beijing (May 11-17)

      There's a tribute to Buddy Rich at Blue Note, a new exhibition opening at Zarah, and Whisky+ is returning to Beijing this week.

      Listen – Buddy Rich Tribute Night at Blue Note

      On Wednesday (May 13), Blue Note will host a special concert honoring Buddy Rich, the legendary jazz drummer revered by Andrew Neiman, the main character in the 2014 film Whiplash. The concert, led by drummer Chang Yichen and the SWG Ensemble, will pay homage to the dynamic swing and bebop style of Rich’s iconic 1940s recordings with "Buddy Rich and His Buddies." Attendees can expect exceptional drumming, classic jazz standards, and an exploration of the legacy of one of jazz's most significant figures.

      The Buddy Rich Tribute Night at Blue Note is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, with doors opening at 6:30 PM and the performance beginning at 8 PM. Tickets start at RMB 180 and can be obtained by scanning the QR code on the poster above. Further details about the event can be found here.

      Explore – "A Stranger" Exhibition Opening at Zarah

      This Thursday (May 14), Zarah will unveil a new photography exhibition titled "A Stranger" by Danike Mary. The exhibition delves into themes of alienation, identity, and the pressures of contemporary beauty standards. Combining fashion photography with portraiture and vintage-inspired elements, it examines how social media, evolving trends, and societal expectations can create feelings of disconnection, even internally.

      The opening reception for the "A Stranger" exhibition at Zarah is set for Thursday, May 14, at 7 PM, with the exhibit running until July 8. Admission is free, and you can find more information about it here.

      Drink – Whisky+ Beijing Returns to Langyuan Station

      Whisky+ Beijing is making its return to the capital for its eighth installment this weekend from May 15-17. Held once again at Langyuan Station, the event will showcase over 350 whisky and premium spirit brands from around the world. Numerous activities, classes, and more will be available throughout the three-day event; read more details here.

      Whisky+ Beijing will occur at Langyuan Station on May 15 from 4 PM to 10 PM, on May 16 from 2 PM to 10 PM, and on May 17 from 2 PM to 8 PM. General admission tickets are priced at RMB 59, with other ticket options available for purchase via this link.
