The Battle of the Bands at Culturopolis, taking place from January 31 to February 1, is the premier event for international high school bands in Beijing. This is an opportunity to perform live for an audience in a fantastic venue, compete with other skilled bands, and attain recognition.
This event welcomes all international high school bands in Beijing, but space is limited: a maximum of 12 bands will be chosen to take the stage. We have already received enthusiastic applications from bands representing The Beijing French International School, HD Beijing School, BIBA, BIBS HDA, Tsinghua International School Daoxiang Lake, Aura Boya Academy, Moonshot Academy, and others. There’s still room for a few more bands to join, but you must submit a recording of your live performance!
Who can participate?
All band members must currently be enrolled in a Beijing international school. Bands are not required to have original songs or a large set list. Cover songs are acceptable, and each band will perform their best 15-minute set during the competition.
How can you enter?
To impress our judges, send an audio or video recording of one of your songs by midnight on January 12.
What is the performance schedule?
There will be three preliminary rounds, followed by a final round on Saturday and Sunday. The top band from each preliminary round will move on to the Grand Finale on Sunday afternoon, competing for the championship title.
This is a great opportunity to showcase your talent—ideal for busy students—so ensure your band can commit to performing on Saturday and Sunday, and if you win, the Sunday finals before you enter.
Bands will be judged on their musicality, spirit, and stage presence, with the winner being named the Best International High School Band in Beijing. Prizes will also be awarded for second and third places, as well as for the best individual performances. An Audience Favorite prize will be selected by the attendees, so bring your friends to support your band.
All performers will receive credentials that can enhance their college applications.
