The Battle of the Bands at Culturopolis, happening from January 31 to February 1, is the premier event for international high school bands in Beijing. It provides a unique opportunity to perform live in front of an audience at a fantastic venue, compete with other skilled bands, and earn recognition. This event is available to all international high school bands in Beijing, but space is limited; only 12 bands will be chosen to take the stage during the weekend.
Who is eligible to participate?
All members of your band must currently attend a Beijing international school. Bands are not required to have original songs or a lengthy set list; cover songs are acceptable, and each band will perform their best 15-minute set during the competition.
How can you enter?
You must impress a panel of knowledgeable local music experts. To participate, submit an audio or video recording of one of your songs by midnight on January 5.
What is the performance schedule?
The event will commence on Saturday afternoon with three preliminary rounds, each featuring four bands. You will need to complete a sound check 90 minutes before your 15-minute set. The top band from each preliminary round will move on to the Grand Finale on Sunday afternoon, competing for the championship title in front of the weekend's audience. This is an excellent opportunity for busy students, so ensure your band can commit to your designated Saturday time slot and, if successful, the Sunday finals before entering.
Bands will be evaluated based on their musicality, spirit, and stage presence, with the winner being named the Best International High School Band in Beijing. Prizes will also be awarded for second and third places, along with recognition for outstanding individual performances. An Audience Favorite award will be given based on crowd votes, so bring your supporters along to cheer for your band. All performers will receive credentials useful for college applications.
