How to CN?

Journey Back to Saga - Reflections of a Traveler

      Heading to Lhasa

      01.10.2025 - 01.10.2025

I woke up at 6:45 to shower and finish packing. We had breakfast at 7:30 and departed at 8. The meal was quite enjoyable, and we boarded the bus for a 10-hour journey. Unlike other travel days that usually included scenic stops and places to buy trinkets or take bathroom breaks, today we pushed through with only "natural bathroom" stops and breaks for lunch and tea. During lunch, a little boy, around 4 or 5 years old, sat behind me and was fascinated by us. Some members of our group who speak Chinese helped to translate questions between him and us. He asked me my age, and when I told him, the shock on his face reminded me of the kid in Home Alone when he splashes aftershave on his face. He was adorable. One of our group members, Helena, is a Danish girl. The waitress was captivated by her beauty, staring at her until she finally gathered the courage to ask for a photo together. Helena is indeed very attractive and often receives compliments and looks from others. We joke that she could be another granddaughter of mine, which suggests I should start taking her on trips. She’s very sweet. Another member of our "back of the bus gang" is Yelana, a banker from Singapore who speaks Chinese, which is very helpful. She is also lovely and fun to be around. The last member of our group is Tony, a Kiwi from New Zealand currently working in Shanghai. The four of us get along well, share meals, look out for each other, and have a lot of fun together. This evening in Saga, we discovered a pizza place and enjoyed fries, pizza, Coke, and a strawberry sundae. It was our first taste of "normal" food on this trip. For lunch, I had mo mos, their version of steamed dumplings, which were quite delicious. Despite the tiring drive, we saw a herd of wild donkeys, which were beautiful, as well as herds of sheep and yaks. These animals roam freely and are really amazing to see. I’m glad to have caught up on my entries, and I apologize for dumping all this on you at once, but it is what it is. Blessings to all.
