Beijing Athletes Claim Gold at 2025 FISU World University Games

The 2025 FISU World University Games commenced on Wednesday, July 16, in the Rhine-Ruhr area of Germany, and a Beijing competitor has already made significant waves. He Yanwei from Beijing Sport University, along with Lu Wei from Chengdu Sport University, secured the gold medal in the women’s 10m synchronized platform diving event, marking China’s first gold at this year’s games.

The duo, who only began training together less than two weeks ago, triumphed with a remarkable lead of over 30 points against the second-place team. The talented divers received an official congratulatory letter from China’s Ministry of Education. The Summer Universiade is slated to run until July 27.

For those unfamiliar, the International University Sports Federation (Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire or FISU), established in 1949, manages sports events for student athletes aged 17-25. It organizes two sets of World University Games (Summer and Winter) every two years in various global locations. The inaugural Summer Universiade took place in 1959 in Turin, Italy. This year’s Rhine-Ruhr games represent the 32nd Summer Universiade. China has hosted the event multiple times, most notably in 2001 when Beijing was the host city, and in 2023 when the 2021 Summer Games were held in Chengdu after a Covid-related postponement. Looking ahead, the FISU and China will host the 2025 FISU University World Cup Football games from September 17 to September 28 in Dalian.

      Subway Exit Updates

The Olympic Green Station’s Exit F, serving Line 15 directly, has been officially opened. This new exit is located at the northwest corner of the Tianchen Donglu and Datun Lu intersection. Its opening is expected to greatly ease congestion and improve passenger flow during peak times at Exit H, which had previously been the only western exit on Tianchen Donglu.

Additionally, Line 8’s Tianqiao station has introduced a new underground pedestrian passage connecting Exit A to Tianqiao Citizens Square. Just south of the square lies the Tianqiao Performing Arts Center, which already featured a passage from Exit D of the subway station. The newly opened channel offers more options for accessing locations on the west side of Tianqiao Nandajie near the subway station.

Furthermore, the Beijing Metro Network Control Center has announced that Exit H of the Military Museum transfer station, which connects Line 9 and the Batong Line on Line 1, will be closed starting July 14, 2025, with no specified reopening date.
