Embrace Spring at the Three Shadows Sakura Photography Fair.

It's that time of year again! The weather is getting warmer, and the spring beauty of Beijing is already starting to show. Naturally, the cherry blossoms have us all excited, and while there are several spots throughout the city to capture those precious cherry blossom photos, one location stands out with a unique photography experience.

On April 4, the Three Shadows Photography Art Centre will hold its third spring photography fair, inviting you to unwind and appreciate the beauty of spring. The event includes three main components:

      Spring Photography

In the courtyard, two lovely cherry blossom trees, affectionately named "Somei-Yoshino" and "Yae Sakura," will be in full bloom, serving as stunning subjects and creating a delightful setting for captivating springtime photography.

      Outdoor Photography Bazaar

What kind of fair would be complete without fantastic handmade products for sale? Don’t miss this photography market that unites artists, curators, experts, scholars, and photography enthusiasts from all walks of life. A variety of items, services, and products will be on display or available for purchase, including photography accessories, formal publications, art, technique demonstrations, services like framing, Polaroid and wet film photography experiences, camera maintenance, training, post-processing services, featured organizations and individuals, along with light snacks and drinks.

      Three Photography Exhibitions

Additionally, the event will celebrate the opening of these intriguing exhibitions:

“Metal Odyssey” – Showcasing works by Jess Ching-wa Lau and Chia-Shin Yang, this exhibition, which won the 2024 Jimei-Arles Image Curator Award, uses metal as a symbol for patients and medical devices to investigate trauma and memory in life. Visitors will see how the artists interact with their families through medical records and travel images, while reflecting on the healing journey of patients through documents symbolizing a courageous odyssey.

“Glinting Light: An Exploration of Luo Bonian's Photography” – This exhibition highlights Luo Bonian's photography and his journey as a self-taught banker, focusing on the golden years of his photographic career from 1930 to 1940. It features nearly a hundred rare original pieces and essential documents from Luo's life and artistic journey, presenting a vivid picture of the artist and his diverse creative world.

“Unfamiliar Edge” – Hao Xinyu's solo exhibition showcases his six-year body of work, reflecting his personal visual language and creative evolution. He often examines feelings of powerlessness in scenes that elude light or are typically ignored, using imagery, materials, and spatial arrangements to construct potential associations and reconstructions of his environment. Hao allows the colors and materials to partially drive the narrative, hoping to evoke surprises from underlying chaos and conflict amidst calmness.
