Brunch in Beijing: Luneurs – Enjoying Brunch at The Box

In Brunchin' Beijing, we delve into some of the finest brunch locations in the capital. Whether you’re looking for upscale dining, budget-friendly options, or hidden treasures, Beijing has a brunch spot for everyone.

During last weekend's visit to The Box, we discovered a new brunch destination: Luneurs. This open-concept eatery is primarily recognized for its outstanding coffee and ice cream, but we couldn’t help but notice a sharable brunch set that we decided to sample. The atmosphere is hipster chic, casual, and laid-back, featuring deli-style seating that is closely arranged. It’s no-frills but very appealing, attracting an eclectic crowd that is ideal for people-watching. Just what we were in the mood for.

We kicked things off with our drinks: I had Vietnamese Coffee, while my friends enjoyed a Salted Caramel Latte and Hot Cocoa. All the beverages were excellent, and the Vietnamese coffee reminded me exactly of the brew I had fallen in love with during my last trip to Hanoi. They even had options for adjusting the coffee strength and the amount of condensed milk.

Next, we tried the brunch set. The concept is brilliant: instead of everyone debating which entrée to choose and subsequently experiencing FOMO over their selections, the table can collectively decide to order a set of three or five dishes for sharing. We chose the Five Dish Set (RMB 168) and sampled the Beef Parmenter, which resembles shepherd's pie with braised beef and creamy polenta; the Thai Style Grilled Pork, perfectly balanced between sweet and spicy; the Salmon Marbre, a raw salmon roll stuffed with mushrooms and fresh herbs; the Truffle Croquet Monsieur, which was slightly dense yet delicious; and the Shakshuka, a North African and Middle Eastern dish with baked eggs in a rich tomato sauce.

It was the perfect portion of food, and the variety of flavors left everyone satisfied and free from FOMO. My personal favorites were the Beef Parmenter and the Shakshuka, while the Salmon received high praise from other members of our group, as did the Thai Pork.

Though we didn’t have space for the famous Salted Caramel Ice Cream, I will certainly return to try it soon! The best part is that The Box provides an excellent excuse to stroll around and digest as you check out its various entertainment options.
